This mandatory safe sleeping course is designed for midwives, nurses and child health nurses providing mother and baby care in hospitals and the community.
Safe sleep practices have been a key part of maternity care since the late 1980s when groundbreaking research reshaped medical perspectives on infant sleep practices and safe sleep positions.
This shift aimed to prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), which now comes under the umbrella term, Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI).
It is essential that every midwife and early childhood care provider understands the safe sleep recommendations to reduce the risks of SUDI/SIDS.
