Pre-Eclampsia, Eclampsia, HELLP Syndrome and DIC are serious multisystem disorders of pregnancy requiring swift detection and management to prevent maternal and/or fetal morbidity and mortality. All midwives are expected to maintain their knowledge in relation to these conditions yearly.
This online learning is for midwives providing maternity care.

- Understand the definitions of Pre-eclampsia; Eclampsia; HELLP syndrome; DIC - Have an overview of statistics; risk factors; risk reduction; diagnosis and management of each condition - Comprehend the medical reasons for offering elective/emergency birth (Induction of labour or Caesarean section) to preserve life - Understand the midwifery responsibilities for: Antenatal care; medication management; VTE risk assessment; birthing care; postnatal care and communication needs of women experiencing pre-eclampsia and associated conditions
