This module outlines your responsibilities as healthcare workers and provides some personal, environmental safety strategies and de-escalation techniques which may assist with prevention and management of Workplace aggression and violence.

Course Content

At completion of the learning material, you will be able to:
- Define occupational violence, recognise the prevalence and impact on healthcare in Australia
- Describe organisational and employee responsibilities regarding occupational violence prevention
- Understand how to perform risk assessments, identify common risk factors and early warning signs associated with escalating aggression in healthcare settings.
- Demonstrate knowledge of personal and environmental safety principles
- Apply evidence-based communication and de-escalation strategies to safely manage escalating or violent incidents
- Recognise the importance of post-incident care, including immediate response, reporting, debrief and psychological support
