Medication safety is imperative to mitigate risks of errors and help clinicians' complete safe medication administration. The consequences of incorrect medication administration can be devastating for patients, families and the clinicians involved.
As nurses and midwives, we are required to refresh our knowledge of Medication safety and calculations annually to ensure competence. This course also includes a module on the National Inpatient Medication Chart to reduce errors around medication orders.

At completion of the learning material, you will be able to: - Understand the legal requirements for medication administration and the cost and risk factors for medication errors - Revise the 6 rights of medication administration and high-risk medications - Complete simple unit conversions - Use formulas for calculating medication dosages and application to clinical settings - Calculate medication dosages with and without a calculator -Understand paediatric medication calculations
