This online education will support nurses implement safety strategies and person-centred care to all patients at risk of falling or who have sustained a fall.

At completion of the learning material, you will be able to: - Reflect on the background and importance of falls prevention - Review the National standards on falls by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care. - Be aware of the statistics surrounding fall related injuries and deaths. - Define what constitutes a fall. - Recognise the intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors for falls. - Review state and territory guidelines and risk assessment tools. - Understand obligations for monitoring and re-assessing falls risk. - Be aware of fall prevention strategies in nursing care and from the multidisciplinary team. - Be able to communicate important information with the multidisciplinary team and patient. - Understand the requirements of post fall management. - Identify the key elements of discharge planning
