Advanced Life Support - Recertification

Affinity’s Advanced Life Support (ALS) Course has been developed to provide clinicians with the necessary knowledge and skills to competently provide both Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) to patients in the event of a life-threatening emergency.

The course reflects the current guidelines and publications of:

1. The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) who follow the recommendations of The International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR).
2. The Australian College of Critical Care Nurses (ACCCN).
3. Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) - Standard 9: Recognising and responding to clinical deterioration in acute health care.

Our completely online ALS course is recommended for recertification and has 3 components:

1. A theory learning package

2. Online theory assessment

3. A practical completed using a Microsoft Teams video link at date/time of your choice.

It is preferred if you have access to a mannikin, bag-valve mask and manual defibrillator for the assessment (if you are on contract as an agency nurse most facilities allow short use of theirs if you ask the education team). If you are unable to access equipment but still want to complete your assessment please email info@afffinityclinicaled.com.au and we can discuss options.

You will be provided a scenario and be required to complete an initial assessment, perform CPR and bag-mask ventilation, discuss advanced airway management and perform manual defibrillation. You will then move to the team leader role to discuss the reversible causes of cardiac arrest and the management plan for the patient including medication administration using the Advanced life support algorithm.
