An increasingly complex workload in emergency departments requires the triage nurse to complete a thorough initial assessment, detect red flags, prioritize and allocate care ensuring prompt treatment for all presentations. The triage nurse is a multifaceted role with many complexities and time pressures. The broad nature of presentations to an emergency department demands highly experienced and knowledgeable triage nurses; striving to do the greatest good for the greatest number when demand overwhelms resources.
This course is designed to assist emergency department nurses in developing knowledge and skills related to the assessment and management of the patient at triage. The content is intended for practiced emergency department nurses and therefore recognizes a fundamental knowledge that the experienced nurse brings to the learning environment.
